Palm Cove is 20 to 25 kilometres north of Cairns Airport — one of the closest major resort destinations to the terminal in all of Far North Queensland. Under normal conditions the drive takes around 25 minutes, making it one of the quickest airport-to-resort runs in the region. The route follows the Captain Cook Highway north from the airport, running alongside the Coral Sea through Cairns’ northern beach suburbs.
After leaving the airport, the Captain Cook Highway passes through Holloways Beach and Yorkeys Knob before reaching the northern beach communities. Trinity Beach comes first — a long, relaxed stretch of sand popular with local families. Next is Clifton Beach, a quieter alternative. Both are worth a stop on another day; your GSS transfer continues north past both directly to Palm Cove, which sits at the end of this string of beaches, where the highway meets the esplanade.
